Fencing
Fencing is classified as a martial art and involves fighting with blades. The largely widespread version of fencing today is called Olympic fencing, as also competitive fencing. The latter is an Olympic event.
History
Modern fencing as an event rolled out from an 18th century Italian school of fencing of the Renaissance, improved at the French school of fencing but went into decline after World War I and out of use at all after World War II. Fencing but continued as a sport, through tournaments. However, both the training and the technique changed drastically.
Olympics
Fencing has been a regular Olympic event right from the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 Summer Olympics at Athens. Women's Foil as an event debuted in Paris, in the 1924 Olympics. There are three forms of Olympic fencing: Foil, Épée and Sabre, which are respectively light thrusting, heavy thrusting and light cutting–heavy thrusting.
